The Belmont Stakes is the end of the Triple Crown race championship. Is the third race of the series and usually takes place two weeks after the Preakness. The 2009 Belmont Stakes will be the 141st running of the Belmont Stakes. The race will take place on June 6, 2009 and be televised on ABC.
The Belmont Stakes, the final and most demanding race of the Triple Crown Series, is named after August Belmont who had been a leading banker and racing man of the 19th century. He was also the first President of the Jockey Club in 1867.
The hosting track will be The Belmont Park in Elmont, New York, in which a total of 33000 people will be sitting to witness the event. The place has a capacity to hold 90000 people, which is two thirds the total capacity of the Kentucky Derby. Also the coarse has a total length of 1 ½ miles in which the world record is 2:24 minutes.
As the final race in the Triple Crown, this year's event will be probably one of the most expected races in the year. The winner of the Kentucky Derby “Mine That Bird, didn’t get the first place in the second race of the series, The Preakness Stakes, and that is why the audience are expecting this horse to come back and show us again a rush of power and strength.
The odds are not posted yet, but we can start thinking about placing the eye on Quality Road or Mine That Bird. The horses listed are:
Mine That Bird
Big Drama
Quality Road
Chocolate Candy
This Ones For Phil
Take The Points
Mr. Hot Stuff
Gitano Hernando
