The Preakness Stakes is the second race from the three competitions that all together make the Triple Crown event. This is probably the second most famous horse race after the Kentucky Derby.
The race competition takes place at Baltimore, Maryland at the Pimlico Race Course and is usually two weeks after the Kentucky Derby. This time is going to be on Saturday May 16th and the track they will run is exactly 1-3/16 mile long which is approximately 1.91 Km.
The Preakness Stakes has been called "The Run for the Black-Eyed Susans" because a blanket of Black-eyed Susans which is the state flower of Maryland. That Blanket is traditionally placed around the winner's neck.
The odds are moving in favor of “Mine That Bird” that surprisingly won the Kentucky Derby. It was amazing how against all odds this horse won the first leg of the Triple Crown, moving away from the field to the front in less than 30 seconds and won for almost 10 meters difference from the second place. That gives a clue about what horse is a good option to have an eye on.
The horses that are probably running are the following, but remember that anything can happen; there is no sure contender until we see them in the gate ready to start running.
Mine That Bird
Big Drama
Papa Clem
Musket Man
This Ones For Phil
Take The Points
Mr. Fantasy
Just A Coincidence
Join The Dance
Miner’s Escape
2009 Preakness Stakes Results:
Surprisingly "Mine that Bird" didn't get the first place at the Preakness Stakes. Everybody had the illusion to see that horse winning again in the second race of the Triple Crown Series.
This time the winner was "Rachel Alexandra", followed by the Kentucky Derby champion, "Mine That Bird" and "Musket Man" in the third place.
